I’m a big gamer, so getting to help name a game was exciting enough. Having it draw from our own folklore made it even better.
1001 Threads of Mizan is the first game from MBC Game Studio, part of MBC GROUP, the largest media and entertainment company in the Middle East and North Africa. Inspired by One Thousand and One Nights, the upcoming action adventure takes one to three players into an Arabian fantasy world of flying carpets, colossal jinn and a betrayal that threatens to tear it all apart.
I worked on the naming alongside Bruiser, a team whose experience spans God of War Ragnarök, Call of Duty, Marvel’s Spider-Man, The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima. Getting to contribute to a new title with people who had worked on games of that calibre meant a lot to me.
My role also included bringing an Arab perspective to the game’s marketing strategy. I helped the team think through what a word or a reference might bring to mind for players who grew up with these stories. I also worked on the North Star statement, putting into words what the game stood for and how we wanted to introduce it to players.
